Karl Brandstaetter

Karl’s initial interest in soil health began while studying and working to protect aquatic ecosystems at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. After learning that soil erosion was a major cause of water pollution, he discovered no-till agriculture and never looked back. He gained hands-on experience working at the campus garden and apprenticing for two seasons on an organic no-till farm.

Erica Fernbach

Erica’s passion for local, sustainable agriculture began with an interest in cooking and eating well and an obsession with where food comes from. After studying crop and soil science at Eastern Oregon University, she spent nine years working on farms in her native California, Oregon, New Mexico, Arizona, and North Carolina before finding someone willing to start a farm with her!

We met while working on neighboring farms in Western North Carolina. When we’re not farming, we enjoy cooking, eating, stretching, hiking, biking, swimming, playing board games, and more often than not, talking about farming!
